To Mega Therion

The Ordo Templi Orientis (O.T.O.) is an international fraternal and religious organisation founded at the beginning of the 20th century of which the English author, poet and occultist Aleister Crowley is undisputedly the most renowned historical member.  Upon his demise, Aleister Crowley bequeathed the legal ownership of all of the countless material he produced to the O.T.O.  This site,, is neither an official nor a recognised O.T.O. website, and thus is not sponsored or controlled by that organisation.  As a consequence, you must bear in mind that all material to be found on this website which was originally produced by the aforementioned Aleister Crowley is and remains the copyright © of O.T.O.

The text of any such material, although the majority of it is freely available to plagiarise elsewhere on the internet, has been made available on this site solely for personal and non-commercial use, and is provided here in a convenient searchable form as a study resource for those seekers looking for it for research purposes.  For commercial use of any material, please contact International Headquarters Ordo Templi Orientis.

Thank you for visiting our site dedicated to the life, times and accomplishments of probably the greatest occultist of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, Aleister Crowley who adopted the names To Mega Therion and Baphomet amongst others.  To Mega Therion is Greek for The Great Beast and is a reference to the Anti Christ in the Book of Revelation.  It is one of many pseudonyms/magical mottos used by Aleister Crowley to describe himself.

"And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.  And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.  And I saw one of his heads as if it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast."    (Revelation Chapter 13, verses 1-3).
