Aleister Crowley's Occult SocietiesPrior to founding his own religion of Thelema on the island of Sicily in 1920, he had been a member of three other important organisations:
Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn (G.D.)
Astrum Argentum A
|
Crowley founded this organisation in 1907, along with his sponsor for membership of the Golden Dawn, George Cecil Jones, after the schism within the G.D. and his falling out with its leader, Samuel Liddell Mathers. Jones was basically a 'sleeping' partner, and as far as we can tell, the organisation has never officially been 'wound up'.
